Spatial distribution of support for Lula

I’ve been playing around with the results from the 2002 elections. For now, I want to map the geographic distribution of votes for Lula da Silva on the second round. The concentration of the Brazilian population in the largest cities seem to obscure many of the interesting aspects. The patterns are much less noticeable than the “red vs. blue” thing going on in the US.

Vote for Lula in the second round 2002 in the Brazilian South.

The data is by municipality. More red means greater support for Lula. I will have to see how to present the data better. When I finalize matching the municipalities names in TSE data to the IBGE shape files I will post them in our data section.
